Design Manifesto

What is design to me? Very simply, design is intentional problem solving.

To borrow a succinct description from Innovate UK, design is “a broad range of tools, methodologies, and mindsets that encourage holistic, system aware approaches to solving challenges across multiple sectors and levels of complexity.” I couldn’t agree more. I believe design is a powerful tool that must be used to create much needed change in the world for people and planet.

Design is a Tool

I use design as a tool to create powerful change needed in the world, mostly change towards a environmental and social thriving

Design is Collaborative

I always collaborate, as I believe bringing diverse persectives and skills together reaches far more than what one person can achieve.

Design Questions the Norm

I seek to find solutions that emerge from challenging the norms, patterns, structures and mindsets of the existing systems at play.

Design is Holistic

It is vital that the process and outcomes of design serves beyond the human - when the effects of design stretch beyond ourselves, we must design for the whole world.

Design is Systemic

Design connects parts of interdependent systems - human, environmental, technical, biological, cultural and political systems. Therefore design thinking and systemic thinking are inherently intertwined.

Design is Hopeful

Design represents hope for betterness, a process in which we can rationally tackle complex problems to make life on earth a better place for all life.

Design is Curiosity

I approach everything with big What if? questions, and with curious imagination I conjure up new worlds that form future narratives.

Design is impactful

Design can manifest in countless ways, and has the potential to change the world.
